OK, I'll take a stab at this. VOIP over Satellite will always be LESS quality than WIRED solutions! The reason is very simple, it takes time to go UP then DOWN from a satellite! Geostationary or not, it still has to get there and back! That time is longer than using wire, fiber, cable etc.
Yes indeed TACHYON has a good satellite system, yes it does work but still won't beat a wired connection. However, several of the satellite carriers can deliver good (not great) voice when nothing else is available! (Notice - when nothing else is available!)
Just look at Tachyon's pages.. selling points. When local infrastructure is down? When in remote locations, for redundancy. Why are those the selling points, well it can't beat wired delivery and at the present time neither can anyone else!) However, when wire isn't available its as good as if not better than some of the others.
VOIP needs speed, and with satellite that speed is limited simply by the total distance it has to travel!
Hope that helps, it does work, but can't at this point beat a wired solution.
