Is it safe to play games on a rear projection tv?

I have an xbox 360 and the tube tv crapped out yesterday. We have a panasonic rear projection now, can I play games on it?

  1. Sure. If it's a CRT-based one (3 tubes, big and heavy) treat it like a plasma as far as pausing the game every once in awhile but not leaving it paused for more than a couple minutes, in order to prevent burn-in.

  2. If you keep both the contrast and brightness levels turned down and don't leave static images on the screen for a long time then there won't be a problem. Note though that most TVs out of the box are set in "torch" mode from the factory. This meaning that the contrast is set way too high. Turn the contrast down and once you get used to it you will have a better picture with more resolution.

Whenever people with new sets have them adjusted by a professional adjuster (ISF) the screen seems dim by comparison but quickly you'll notice how the colors are much better and the resolution is better due to the set not "blooming" on high contrast scenes.
