How did the cylinders on my car "break"?

Question by Elias C: How did the cylinders on my car "break"?
My mechanic said the cylinders on my car "broke". It is a 1999 Ford Contour with 107,000 miles. It has trouble accelerating and would shut off sometimes when i tried to reverse. I drove the car with the check engine light on for a long time but i recently stopped when the check engine light began blinking. Any help is appreciated. And if anyone is familiar with this about how much would it cost to fix the problem?

If he means it literally, you cracked the block. Why didn't you look into it when the check engine light was on? Its not there to look pretty. You probably ran it with no oil. your engine needs replaced.
