Q&A: Why do Americans call soccer "soccer" and the rest of the world calls it "football"?


Question by michaelpuss69: Why do Americans call soccer "soccer" and the rest of the world calls it "football"?
Where did we get "soccer" from? Why don't us Americans call it football like the rest of the world? I mean, our "football" doesn't even involve using your foot unless you're kicking.

  1. because we call football football if we called soccer football too then that would just be confusing. but that is weird of why we didnt originally call it football like everyone else.

  2. soccer started in a foriegn country not the usa and we use our foot to kick the ball. so they call it football. where in usa,they call it soccer because the person who introduced football to usa his name was " andrian soccer" hope this helps

  3. because americans call "american football" FOOTBALL when it is grossly misnamed and should be referred to as throwball because there is literally next to no action involving the foot, besides field goals and punts, and because americans are ignorant and have a false superiority complex, and don't think i'm being discriminatory because i am an american, so in conclusion, we should call it football like the rest of the world
