Once I turn 21 in september, I plan on taking a "Wine Studies" class at a university. I plan on taking this class because I want to make a transition from busboy to waiter or even professional waiter. From the course description, it includes how to pair food and wine, read and understand labels, wine regions, tastes, and more. So would this class help to become a waiter in a fine dining restaurant?

It couldn't hurt, though any primate can be a waitor. It's not a hard job that should become educated in. It should be a job you use as a stepping stone to something better. Does sound like a great class, though.

there is nothing wrong with taking this course, it will show your manager you are looking to accept responsibility, and want more for yourself.you would also be able to look online and find help in pairing foods and wines, or even beer and liquor. at high end restaurants, some customers appreciate the fact that their waiters, have the knowledge to suggest certain pairings. be careful of the tasting notes for the wines though, not all the people will be able to differentiate the flavors in wine. it might be best to just suggest wines by varietal according to flavors of the dinners. ie;hearty and bold with roast beef, things like that. a good web site to help with food pairings is, cellarnotes.net
