on wikipedia it says rick wasnt actually singing on here...it is just a lip sync... that saddens me if thats actually true. also im pretty sure they are on a ton of coke too which basically set the standard for concerts to this day. but that also leads me to believe that it actually was them performing and not an overdub, you have to read about it
The Band's music is as close to perfection as we're likely to see in our lives. What made it so good? Was it Robbie's songs, Levon's drums and vocals, Ricks awesome bass and vocals, Richard's vocals and keyboards, or Garth's overall genius. Or was it hard years playing almost everyday for the Hawk and Bob and finally themselves. Would they have been the same if any one of those things was missing? We can be sad they didn't play together longer, but not for the legacy they did leave behind.
@TheLazZzar Just the one Canadian Douche bag who decided to tell me how much he hates all Americans. Pretty typical for his breed. Sorry if it offended you; I made a blanket statement just like the Canadian Douche bag and I shouldnt have. I should have just aimed it at the one Canadian Douche bag. Guess I finally got sick of hearing how much Canadians hate Americans and I snapped. I know that that not all feel that way, and should have just directed it at the one Candadian Douche bag.
Little Velvet Whore, whoever you are, thanks for putting this up. I have this in like 6 different formats, but its always nice to see it and hear it. Too bad the unedited footage is available from this song; I believe that the album has the whole song. Peace
probably one of the most amazing concerts filmed, directed and produced. Thank you to The Band, Martin Scorsese and The Band's cool friends (Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Eric Clapton etc...) for such an amazing treat.
Doesn't matter where I am or where I go, who I was or who I shall become, there will always be just "the Band"....thanks for the post and the memories! This love song ranks among the top 5 of all time IMHO. Can feel the pain/joy/celebration/oneness of love throughout!
@Tarwater03 Mmmmmm, I'd say that to be Richard, but Rick is the charm.

ReplyDeletea beautiful song from the best rock n roll concert movie ever made IMHO - Rick Danko's vocals just rip your heart out
ReplyDeleteRobbie might have been the brains, and Levon might have been the rock... but Rick was most definitely the soul.
ReplyDeleteWonderful song. Definitely my favorite song by the Band which is hard because I love so much of their music
ReplyDeletewho is the beast on the sax with the epic beard? props! on the beard, and the rockin solo
ReplyDelete@spontaniousman16 Garth Hudson
