Q&A: What's the difference between "good news" and "a good news"?

Question by Jason G.: What's the difference between "good news" and "a good news"?
I got a friend who wants to know, what's the difference between "good news" and "a good news"? He wants to know specifically, what's the difference between "I hope that was good news," and "I hope it was a good news." He doesn't speak English that well and I don't know how to explain it to him-please help me out-thank you.

  1. As a retired English as a Second language teacher, I have never heard the term "a good news." Is it new slang or a religious phrase?
