Online games are too small but the game window size is fine?

Trying to play games online and the window itself is enlarged and great, but the game loads too small (ex: 3-1/2"x5") to play. Have already experimented with screen resolution and it does not affect the size of the game itself. Very frustrating. Have the latest versions of Sun Java and Flash. Am using a Dell X60 laptop with XP Pro. Have tried screen enlarging key strokes, all they do is screw up the game. Any ideas? Thank you.
