How do people "save" so much on car insurance?

Question by Stephen T: How do people "save" so much on car insurance?
I keep seeing these commercials where "people can save 0 or more on car insurance". Our two late model cars are fully insurance beyond what we need and they are only 0/year. Are you telling me I can get our cars insured to the same degree for 0/year? Seems really inexpensive.

Insurance rates can vary, but not normally by that much. And, you also have to take into account other factors such as driving record, deductibles, amounts of coverage, and credit history (yes, credit history plays a role in your insurance rates!).
The more you're spending on insurance now, the more of a chance that you could save some money by shopping around and switching. Beware, though, the cheapest guy in town isn't always the best. Just like almost everything in life- you get what you pay for.

  1. Color does not matter with insurance rates. That's a myth.
