Q&A: How is "American football" different from rugby?

Question by chocolover212: How is "American football" different from rugby?
I thought that the game "rugby" to the rest of the world is "football" to America, but in some places I see that there is some sort of difference. People say that "american football" is rugby with armor. Can someone explain? And does anyone know when american football was originated?
