Why do we allow media terror?

Question by BrunoGiordano: Why do we allow media terror?
From the beginning of Iraq we have been assaulted with "media terror" getting everyone so scared and paranoid they can't make coherent decisions and this, obviously includes Congress.

We, through the CIA have used media terror in Central and South America for years. This was especially true when we deposed Allende of Chile by the CIA and a special million provided by Nixon directed directly at media lies.

Now there is some action being taken:
Regarding that, he said "we are working hard, as Venezuela already feels like it is a member of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR)." Referring to the Latin American meeting against media terror, Chavez noted it will be attended by journalists, analysts, academicians, writers, among others.

That forum, he affirmed, responds to the need of coping with an issue reflected in the use of TV and radio stations "to generate terror, try to incite wars, violence. It is not fair that happens so flagrantly and shamelessly," Chavez stressed.
Without our news media, as it stands now and with 'embedded journalists' most of what I hear are distortions and lies.

Past surveys have shown (and I don't have the links handy at the moment, have shown our propaganda on par with that of dictatorships. Tell me, son, what good is is 'knowing' from Fox, CNN etc when it takes personal investigation to try to find what is true and what is fiction about our world today. And I mean rationally; not saying that the moon landing was falsified or the like.

Allow it? What are you going to do to stop it? Media companies hold so much more power than people realize. They are your door to the outside world, without them all you know is your little suburban house and your television set.
