How do you connect to a "computer to computer" wireless network?

Question by jimm120: How do you connect to a "computer to computer" wireless network?
I have noticed that whenever I search for wireless signals with my netbook, I get 2 or 3 wireless signals that say "Computer to Computer" wireless networks. It even lets you connect to it. But the internet still doesn't work.

How, exactly, do these types of wireless signals work?

The ones I always see are "Secretaria SEJ", "neolanusers", and "TEC"....at least at the place I work at there are those signals.

So, how do I actually get internet from these signals?

Best answer:

Answer by Chris
you cant these are adhoc signals usually from businesses for intracomputer data transfers

“MARKET POTENTIAL OF MOBILE OPERATORS VERSUS WIRELESS OPERATORS”

Nausheen Akhtar

Telecommunications has become one of the most important infrastructures that are very essential to the socio-economic well-being of any nation. The globalization of world economy has further amplified the importance of telecommunications to the economy. The telecommunication sector is one of the fastest-growing. Telecommunications is at a crossroads, local telephone companies threatened by wireless communication. Voice over IP challenges established structures of pricing and taxation.

Market share of operators is considered an important tool to gauge the level of competition in any sector of the economy. Market shares of cellular mobile operators indicate that market is moving toward perfect competition where the share of major operators are declining and new entrants are able to grab more share in the market. During the year 2007-08, telenor has emerged as fastest growing operator who has improved its market share from 17% in 2006-07 to above 21% slightly higher than ufone who also has 21% market share. On the other hand the leading mobile operator mobilink is losing its significant market power place rapidly and its share has declined by about 5 percentage points and reached 36% in 2007-08 compare to 41% in 2006-07. CMPak is also growing very fast and it has added 2.9 million subscribers, which is an impressive number and one could hoped that in future it will grab more market share. Warid dropped its share in relation to previous reported period although the company had been gaining the subscribers i-e from 17% to 18%.:

Wireless operators have increased during the last one year in Pakistan. As a result, at the end of July 2008 there were almost 170000 broadband subscribers a 150% increase on subscriber numbers in comparison with July 2007. This figure does not include the broadband subscribers covered through mobile networks broadband technologies i.e. GPRS, EDGE. According to point topic global broadband analysis, Pakistan has been ranked 4th in the world for annual broadband growth

As of June 2007 there are about 1.85 million WLL subscribers in Pakistan. Pakistan Telecommunication Company that works under the trademark PTCL V is the leader with a market share of 59%. TeleCard (GO CDMA) has 23% of the market. World call Telecom (stock performance; also see coverage on its deal with Omantel) has 15% share of the WLL subscribers. Great Bear International Services (Pvt) Ltd (DIALLOG) has 3% share.

The future success of telecommunication services will be determined by a carrier's ability to better understand the opposed needs of various types of consumer and business customers, providing substitute services modified to the needs of each market.  Those networks that offer user-integrated applications and whose providers aggressively market their network services will thrive in the years ahead.  Furthermore, it is not inevitably the technology linked with the network design that will guarantee its business success, but rather the application solutions and marketing strategies of the industry participants. The accomplishment or collapse of a carrier will be determined by the effective promotion of networks as incorporated business system solutions. The different types of network architectures used in communications networks, including existing networks and newer technology still being deployed.  Insight examines the capabilities of each network, their investment costs, subscribers, future directions, and convergence migration, providing a thorough analysis of network architecture evolution.
